Thanks to CDA Board Member Paul Forst, our northern community sign landscaping has gotten a facelift. Thank you Paul & Kathy!
Tim Weir helps with watering the shrubs there. Thank you Tim & Debbie! I hope you can make it to Duck and enjoy the Fall weather!

The Town of Duck recently purchased a tract of land in the Village area known as the Herron property and they have decided to utilize this property. To that end, they are asking Duck property owners for comments and feedback.
If you are interested, you can fill out the survey here. The following items were emailed out to community members:
Additionally, off-season trash collection begins October 1. Recap:
Posts and handrails at the ocean access points have been adjusted and repaired. The northern community sign has been removed for refurbishment. The Town's Fall bulk pick-up date has been set for Friday, October 17th.
On that day, no later than 5:00 AM, please leave bulk waste out by the curb for collection. As a reminder, you can also take bulk waste (regular waste & recycle waste) to the Recycle Center in Kitty Hawk at any time throughout the year. You will need to get a permit for this from Duck Town Hall and take it with you. Call the Town at 252-255-1234 to get the permit. All of this is free, but you have to transport the bulk waste to the Recycle Center yourself. Vendors are not allowed to use this service. The Town is asking interested owners to complete a survey on this topic. I know many of you have points of view regarding preserving dark skies at night.
I'm happy the Town is asking owners for their opinion. Hopefully that effort will extend to other topics of owner interest in the future. Please take the opportunity to complete this particular survey if you have an opinion on outdoor lighting. Take the survey now! The CDA Board met to vote on proposed changes to the Association Bylaws. Revised bylaws were approved & the updated version of the bylaws has been posted to the CDA website.
The CDA Bylaws are the written rules that control the internal affairs of the CDA. As such, every few years we should undertake to review and make changes, if necessary, to reflect current practices and protocols. The Bylaws were last reviewed and updated in 2015. Since then, new issues have arisen, some of our practices have evolved and new communication technologies are being used. Hence, there's a need to revise our Bylaws.
A proposed set of bylaws revisions has been emailed out to owners and the CDA Board is seeking comment from the community regarding the proposed changes. The Town of Duck is offering free refrigerator clings that include:
There is an interesting article in the Outer Banks Voice that might be significant in how we address future beach erosion.
Here's a link to the article: https://www.outerbanksvoice.com/2025/03/30/could-shorelock-be-a-real-alternative-to-beach-nourishment/ Bobby Outen, Dare County Executive, describes a company named ShoreLock. They produce a product they claim is all-natural and can be placed in trenches on the beach. The product would then mix with beach sand over time and would cause sand particles to bond together and thereby withstand erosion pressures. The end result might be less beach erosion over time and hence a reduced need for sand renourishment projects. This sounds like an interesting concept, but it would need to be fully tested of course. The Board will monitor future news on this and share it with the community. A public information meeting on the bridge project was held last week at Town Hall in Duck. Attached is a handout from the meeting. The meeting was well attended, and a number of people provided public comments. The project has cleared all legal hurdles and is at the CAMA permit application phase. While some people who provided comments were opposed to the bridge, a majority were in favor of it. Very few comments addressed actual permitting issues. There are more steps ahead before permit approval, budgeting and start of construction. I don't think there's any schedule for the remaining steps beyond permitting. Our impression is that this project is moving forward toward ultimate construction of a Mid-Currituck bridge.
